Kristoffer and I have been married four years today! Makes me think of our amazing wedding days.
Yes indeed, wedding days. Because I couldn’t decide whether to go with the white wedding dream or the old tradition of farm weddings. Kristoffer said, without realizing what he got himself into, “ You know what Live? Back in the days, they had their weddings three days.” I can't imagine he realized what he started, but we ended up with an amazing, wedding weekend, with both the white wedding and the traditional farm wedding.
The white wedding day had the ceremony in our local church, Olberg. Our two choirs that we were a part of at our university sang in the church, and also while we rowed a boat over the lake to the little island with the fairytale castle, Villa Fridheim. A nice dinner, dance and cake made the day complete.
I used to work as a guide at Villa Fridheim when I was younger, and always dreamed of getting married there.
But the most amazing day was the farm wedding. We had 170 guests all in their national costumes!! Kristoffer and our friends and family had practiced old folkdances before the wedding, and a local blacksmith had a ceremony where we got "hitched" in chains as a symbol of connected love! We had prepared for the wedding for over a year, and everything that was served was picked, hunted and fished by us, and prepared on the farm. We even made our own beer! Wow, I remember being exhausted by all the preparation, but the effort was well worth the success of everyone’s enjoyment.
My mom and mommo helped me get ready in the old stabbur (farmhouse) as the traditions says.
Kristoffer and his boys dancing to show that he is worthy of the bride.
I came out of the stabbur, and we followed the fiddle player down to the blacksmith, under the heart-shaped tree on the farm.
He is an old friend of Kristoffer, and it was a really nice ceremony.
I guess we're really hooked now!
A parade around the neighborhood to finish the process.
We had the party going on the whole night, and everyone was sooo excited! They said they felt like they were a part of history, and that this might as well have been over 100 years ago. We felt proud to be able to pull this off and to give everyone a great experience.
Let me know if you want to hear more about any of the wedding days, or the planning, and I'll write another post about it.
