Every family has their traditions for different holidays. In Norway the biggest holidays are Christmas and Easter. Some people go on vacation out of the country to somewhere warm, but Easter is the vacation most people seek the mountains. The “dream” Easter vacation for many includes skiing, a cabin, snow, sun, kvikklunsj chocolate, oranges, the orange soda “solo”, Easter eggs filled with candy and Easter lamb.

This, combined with family time, reading your favorite crime novel, solving crossword puzzles, and playing cards at night….yeah, that’s Easter, Norwegian style.  The younger ones might go on “after ski” which is usually a party with a great atmosphere at a rustic bar. Some people ski across the Hardangervidda plateau like I’ve mentioned before, while some stay in the city. Everybody celebrates in their own special way.

Our personal celebration consists of all of the above, except the city part. Kristoffer and I usually take the first half with his family, and the last half with mine. Some years we have crossed Hardangervidda by ski, and sometimes we are more around the cabin. This all means we had to have someone to watch the farm and the animals, and my dad often ends up with that responsibility.

Since Liv was born, we have to adjust our lives to her of course, but we feel that possible restrictions on what we can do are usually more in the mind. If we plan well and take things slow, we´ll still manage to do most things we want.

Our whole family LOVES her so much and they are happy to take her for a couple of hours if Kristoffer and I want to do something alone. Here is Onkel Knut and Liv last Easter, her first.

"Aunt Brigitte and aunt Linn " :)

Eating is also a big part of this holiday, and eggs and lamb are the main things we ”must have”. On the biggest meal (Easter Saturday), we always have lamb thigh. We bake it for hours, and it's supergood! In the last few years, we've had lamb from Ole Gunnar and Linn's farm.

Ready to eat.

I love to do some decorations with eggs, flowers, small chickens and bunnies for Easter. And here is a picture of last year's table at home. This year LIV has made some decorations that I will show you how to make in a couple of days. Adorable for grown ups, and fun for the kids.

Oops. Just realized that this window was VERY dirty! :D Typical spring.

Do you guys have any special Easter traditions?
