Like I mentioned in the post about the farm animals, we are very concerned with animal wellbeing. It’s very unfortunate that in many corners of the world (Norway included), money and profit are valued much higher than animal welfare.

A simple, extremely important, yet almost forgotten fact is:  meat equals animals. There will not be any meat available unless animals are slaughtered. Easy to say, yet tough to do.

We, as consumers, have the most power of all. What we demand will be supplied. If consumers demand for the animals to live happy lives and are willing to pay for it, I´m pretty sure that all farmers in the world would jump around in a very happy dance along with their animals.

I don’t want to preach; I want to lead by example. We have 30 pigs outside in a huge area where they can run around and use their bodies like nature intended. This way, they are very happy and get to use their noses in the dirt which means that the acid some people react to in pig’s meat is non-existing.

So we try to give the best to our pigs. They eat roots, greens, raspberries, apples, boiled potatoes and pigs’ feed. They dig in the ground, swim in the lake, and sleep under the shadow of a tree. Liv and I go to see them on our daily stroller ride. They are so cute! This brand is called Durox. They are a good breed for the outdoors; just check out their brown fur!

For the very best quality of life, we rent a mobile slaughter who is very professional that comes to the farm. They have a big trailer with a working team, including veterinaries.

Our pigs SLEEP through the whole slaughter day. Maybe I should make a little video about that? Please let me know.

I think that people need to look reality in the eye and realize that
meat = animals.
And if that is hard to handle, I think becoming a vegetarian is a great choice. If you can live with that fact, you might want to look at how the animals you eat have lived their lives and how they were treated.

Happypigs

I almost only eat meat from our own animals, or animals that we have hunted. Then I know that they have lived well, and died respectfully. And I am willing to pay a lot of money for that because it’s my body’s fuel, and I think animals deserve respect.

We have a "pig list" where people can sign up to buy a half of a "HappyPig." With our 30 pigs, that's 60 halves and 60 families that are fed for the winter.

Hey, "HappyPigs," let's do a selfie.

Fall is coming to the farm.

 I have a little thing that I do every year; I pick the leaves of a  tree to see the color spectrum. The nature is quite amazing, giving us all these colors, huh?

Even Capra thinks so – before eating it...
